KRILF Scientists Participate in ISAG 2025 Conference in South Korea

In July 2025, the International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG) held its annual conference — ISAG 2025 — in the Republic of Korea. The Kazakh Research Institute of Livestock and Forage Production (KRILF) was represented by Head of the Molecular Genetic Analysis Laboratory Kairat Dosybaev and Researcher Tilek Kapas.

The conference featured 9 scientific sections and hosted 402 research presentations covering diverse areas such as cattle and small ruminant genomics, equine genetics, functional and population genomics, reproduction, immunogenetics, aquaculture, ancient and indigenous livestock genetics, and more.

KRILF presented two research papers:

  • “Analysis of genetic diversity of Alatau cattle breed by STR-genotyping”

  • “Ancient inbreeding and selection signatures revealed by runs of homozygosity in Kazakh horse populations”

These studies explored the genetic diversity, inbreeding levels, and selection patterns in Kazakh cattle and horse breeds using modern genomic tools. The presentations received strong interest and positive feedback from international colleagues.

Additionally, KRILF delegates held meetings with representatives of leading institutions from Korea, Japan, Italy, Turkey, China, and the USA. Discussions focused on joint research initiatives, exchange of expertise, and establishing formal partnerships. Several collaborative projects are expected to be launched as a result.

This visit marked an important step toward international recognition of Kazakhstan’s livestock genetic resources and strengthening the institute’s scientific capacity.
