Field Day in Aktobe: Improving the Mugalzhar Horse Breed and Developing Kazakhstan's Horse Breeding Industry

On October 3, 2026, a Field Day was held in Aktobe at the facilities of MUGALZHAR ZHYLKY ZAVODY LLP, jointly organized by the Kazakh Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Forage Production and MUGALZHAR ZHYLKY ZAVODY LLP. The event focused on current challenges and opportunities in the development of Kazakhstan's horse breeding industry, the improvement of breeding and productive traits in horses, and the exchange of scientific knowledge and practical experience.

One of the key topics was the improvement of the Mugalzhar horse breed, with particular emphasis on the Bau and Bekzat stud sire lines.

The Mugalzhar breed plays an important role in Kazakhstan's productive horse breeding sector. Its further improvement through targeted selection and breeding programs, the preservation and development of valuable stud sire lines, the enhancement of productive traits, and the consolidation of distinctive breed characteristics are of particular importance.

As part of the Field Day, an exhibition of Mugalzhar horses was organized. Participants had the opportunity to examine the exhibited horses and assess their conformation and productive characteristics. The event brought together scientists, industry specialists, horse breeders, representatives of breeding farms, and prospective horse buyers.

The Field Day continued with a scientific and practical seminar entitled "Improvement of the Mugalzhar Horse Breed: A Case Study of the Bau and Bekzat Stud Sire Lines." Presentations and discussions addressed various aspects of selection and breeding, the preservation and improvement of stud sire lines, and future prospects for the breed's development.

Events of this kind contribute to strengthening cooperation between science and industry, facilitating the exchange of practical experience, and promoting the application of scientifically grounded breeding approaches aimed at preserving genetic potential and further improving Kazakhstan's native horse breeds.
