Study Conducted in Almaty Region on Tropilaelaps spp. and Varroa destructor Infestation in Honey Bees

In 2025, scientific research was carried out at a beekeeping farm in Shelek village, Enbekshikazakh District, Almaty Region, to study the spread of Tropilaelaps spp. and Varroa destructor mites in Apis mellifera honey bees.

The study was initiated by scientists from the Beekeeping Department of the Kazakh Research Institute of Livestock and Forage Production (KRILF). Visual inspection methods and laboratory analyses were used to detect ectoparasitic mites in bee colonies. Representative bee samples from various hives were analyzed to assess the level of infestation quantitatively.

The data collected formed the basis for:

  • assessing the epizootic situation,

  • planning treatment and preventive measures,

  • monitoring infestation dynamics throughout the season.

This research marks an important step toward the development and protection of beekeeping in Kazakhstan, contributing to ecological balance and increased agricultural productivity.
