KRILF Scientists Tested Effective Early Detection Methods for Varroa Mite Infestation in Honey Bees

As part of a study on varroatosis infestation in honey bee colonies in Kazakhstan, researchers from the Beekeeping Department of the Kazakh Research Institute of Livestock and Forage Production (KRILF) conducted field trials at the apiary of IP “Shatskiy” in Qazyghurt District, Turkistan Region. The main goal was to evaluate effective methods for early detection of the Varroa destructor mite. Three diagnostic approaches were tested: visual inspection, alcohol wash, and the sugar shake method.
